How long will therapy last?
The length of therapy varies based on your individual needs and goals. Many clients benefit from a longer-term therapeutic relationship, while others find it helpful to attend therapy for a a few months to work through a specific challenge or life transition. We will regularly assess your progress together to ensure therapy continues to support your growth and meet your needs. What should I do between sessions?
Between sessions, it can be helpful to practice skills, reflect on insights, or try small exercises we discuss. Journaling, mindfulness, exposures, or other strategies may also be useful. We’ll check in during sessions to review what’s working and adjust your plan as needed. What can I expect in my first session?
In your first session, we’ll orient you to therapy, get to know each other, discuss your goals, review your history, thoroughly assess your symptoms, and identify initial strategies and areas of focus. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions about therapy or how we’ll work together.Do you incorporate spirituality into therapy?
Yes, for clients who want it. I’m a Christian and enjoy integrating spirituality when it’s helpful, but I honor all faiths and backgrounds. -
How long are sessions, and how often will I meet with you?
Most sessions are 50–60 minutes. Many clients start with weekly sessions to build skills and momentum, then shift to bi-weekly or monthly as things feel more manageable. We’ll collaborate to find a pacing that fits your needs. Some clients attend therapy for a few months, while others continue longer. We’ll regularly assess whether therapy remains helpful and adjust the frequency as needed. Can I reach you between sessions?
Yes! For non-urgent questions or updates, clients can email me, but the most secure way to reach me is through SimplePractice, our HIPAA-compliant messaging system. Please keep in mind that messages are not a substitute for therapy. If you are experiencing a clinical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest hospital immediately.
We’ll also check in regularly during sessions to review how strategies are working and adjust your plan, so you can continue making progress in between appointments.
What should I do if I need to cancel or reschedule?
I ask for at least 24 business hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or missed sessions without sufficient notice are subject to a late cancellation fee equal to the cost of the session. This policy helps protect your commitment to therapy and ensures we can make the most of our time together. What happens if I repeatedly miss sessions?
If a pattern of repeated missed or late sessions occurs, we will discuss any barriers and potential solutions. In cases where consistent attendance cannot be maintained, I may need to discharge a client from therapy to ensure they receive the care they need elsewhere. Any such decision would be made collaboratively and in your best interest, with referrals provided as appropriate. -
Do you accept insurance?
I am out-of-network, but I can provide a Superbill, which you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card to confirm your behavioral health benefits.Payment is collected at the time of your session via HSA or credit card on file. At the end of each month, you’ll receive a Superbill, which is a detailed receipt of your appointments that can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement.
How does out-of-network reimbursement work?
You pay for sessions at the time of service, then submit the Superbill to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement amounts vary by insurance plan, so it’s best to confirm your benefits with your provider.Do you offer sliding scale or financial assistance?
Currently, I do not offer a sliding scale. Please contact me if you’d like to discuss any concerns about payment. What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept credit cards (processed through SimplePractice) and HSA/FSA payments. -
